Haynie, Sandra J.
Golf
b. June 4, 1943, Ft. Worth, TX
Haynie won the Texas Amateur championship two years in a row, 1958 and 1959, and then joined the LPGA tour. Over a sixteen-year period, 1961-76, she won thirty-nine tournaments and in 1974 she became only the second golfer to win the U. S. Women's Open and the LPGA championship in the same year.
However, arthritis limited her playing time from 1977 through 1980. She entered only fourteen tournaments during that period. Haynie rejoined the tour full-time in 1981. The following year she won her third major tournament, the Peter Jackson Classic, and earned $245,232. In 1988, Haynie became the sixteenth woman golfer to earn more than $1 million in her career.
