Litwack's family came to the United States when he was 5 years old. He captained the Temple University team in 1928-29 and 1929-30, then played for the Philadelphia SPHAs for six years. After coaching the Temple freshman team for twenty seasons, compiling a 181-32 record, he spent a year as an assistant coach of the NBA's Philadelphia Warriors, then returned to Temple as head basketball coach in 1952.

Harry Litwack

In twenty-one seasons, Litwack had just one losing season. He was named coach of the year by the New York Basketball Writers Association in 1958, after his team won 27 of 30 games. Temple won the 1969 National Invitation Tournament and twice went to the final four in the NCAA tournament, finishing third both times.

Known for getting the very most out of the limited talent available to him, Litwack coached four All-Americans. His teams won 373 games while losing only 193.
