May, Scott G.
Basketball
b. March 19, 1954, Sandusky, OH
A 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward, May starred at Indiana University in 1974-75, when the Hoosiers were undefeated during the regular season. However, he cracked a bone in his left arm in the last game of the season and played sparingly, wearing a cast, in NCAA tournament action. Indiana lost in the regional finals to the University of Kentucky.
In his senior year, May averaged 23.3 points as Indiana swept through the season and the NCAA tournament without losing a game. He co-captained the team with Quinn Buckner, was named an All-American, and won the Rupp Trophy and the Naismith Award as 1976 college player of the year.
After playing on the gold medal U. S. Olympic team, May joined the Chicago Bulls. He played with them for five seasons and went to the Milwaukee Bucks in 1981. He began the 1982-83 season with the Detroit Pistons, but was released before the season ended. May then played six years of professional basketball in Italy. During his NBA career, he scored 690 points, an average of 10.4 per game.
