St. Clair, "Bob" (Robert B.)
Football
b. Feb. 18, 1931, San Francisco, CA
St. Clair was a starting end on the University of San Francisco's undefeated 1951 team. The school dropped football after that season and St. Clair played for the University of Tulsa during his senior year.
In 1953, he joined the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, who moved him to offensive tackle. The 6-foot-9, 265-pound St. Clair was nicknamed the "Geek" by his teammates because he ate raw meat, but he was also respected for his skills and intelligence. He was the team's offensive captain from 1957 until his retirement after the 1964 season.
One of the tallest NFL players during his era, St. Clair set a league record in 1956 by blocking 10 field goal attempts. He was named an All-Pro in 1955.
After retiring because of a foot injury, St. Clair became a city councilman in Daly City, CA, and was later elected mayor.
