Aldrich, "Ki" (Charles C.)
Football
b. June 1, 1916, Temple, TX
d. March 12, 1983
Aldrich cried a lot as an infant, and his not-much-older brother called him "Ki Baby." Part of the nickname stuck, even after he had grown to be a 5-foot-11, 215-pound football star.
At Texas Christian University, Aldrich was the All Southwest Conference (SWC) center from 1936 through 38 and a consensus All-American in 1938, when he captained the team to an 11-0-0 record, the national championship, and a 15-6 win over Carnegie Tech in the Sugar Bowl.
The first SWC lineman chosen in the first round of the National Football League draft, Aldrich played for the Chicago Cardinals in 1939 and 1940 and the Washington Redskins in 1941 and 1942. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Aldrich played three more seasons with the Redskins, from 1945 through 1947, before retiring.
