A brilliant scorer on penalty corner shots, Anders became a member of the U. S. national field hockey team in 1969 and played through the 1984 season. She also played on every U. S. World Cup team from 1971 through 1983, and led the U. S. in scoring in each tournament.
Anders scored 6 penalty corner goals in 7 matches during the 1983 World Cup tournament. When the U. S. won the Four-Nations cup that year, she scored 4 penalty corner goals in just 3 matches. She captained the 1984 Olympic team that won a bronze medal, the highest finish ever for the United States.
As a student at Ursinus College, an All-American in both field hockey and lacrosse All-American and she won the 1970 intercollegiate women's squash championship. She was also a four-year starter in basketball.
In 1980, Anders became field hockey coach at Old Dominion University. Her teams have won eight NCAA Division I championships, from 1982 through 1984, in 1988, from 1990 through 1992, and in 1998. She has a 348-47-7 record in 18 seasons at the school, including a 66-game winning from 1990 into the 1993 season.
Anders is the only Division I field hockey coach with more than 300 career victories.
