6-2, 221, Kicker. Andersen went to high school as a foreign exchange student in Indianapolis, where he first kicked an American football. He did it so well that he won a football scholarship to Michigan State University. He was the place-kicker on The Sporting News All-American team in 1981, when he set a school record with a 63-yard field goal. He also set a Big 10 record by kicking 45 field goals during his college career.
Andersen was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL draft and spent 13 seasons with the team. In 1987, he led the NFL with 28 field goals in 36 attempts.
He went to the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent in 1995, when he set NFL records with three field goals of 50 yards or more in a single game and eight for the season.
Andersen also holds records for most career field goals of 50 yards or more, 39; most consecutive games scored in, 222; most seasons with 100 or more points, 11; and most Pro Bowl appearances by a kicker, 7. He ranks third all-time in career scoring with 2,036 points.
In 2001, Andersen was signed as a free agent by the New York Giants. That season, he became the third player in NFL history to appear in more than 300 games.
