Baston, "Bert" (Albert P.)
Football
b. Dec. 3, 1894, St. Louis Park, MN
d. Nov. 16, 1979
An All-American end at Minnesota in both 1915 and 1916, Baston teamed with "Pudge" Wyman to form one of the Midwest's first outstanding passing combinations. Although upset by Illinois 14-9, the 1916 team scored 348 points in only 7 games, an average of nearly 50 a game.
In a 54-0 win over Wisconsin, Baston made a leaping catch for a touchdown, taking the ball off a defender's fingers after it had apparently been intercepted.
Baston became an automobile dealer after graduating, but also worked as an assistant coach at Minnesota from 1932 to 1950.
