Bedrosian, Stephen W.
Baseball
b. Dec. 6, 1957, Methuen, MA
Nicknamed "Bedrock," the right-handed Bedrosian won the NL Cy Young Award in 1987, when he appeared in 65 games for the Philadelphia Phillies, compiling a 5-3 record with 40 saves and a 2.83 ERA.
After a brief appearance with the Atlanta Braves in 1981, Bedrosian became the team's chief reliever the following season and was named the NL's rookie pitcher of the year by The Sporting News for picking up 11 saves to go with an 8-6 record and a 2.42 ERA.
Bedrosian developed arm trouble late in the 1984 season and was ineffective in 1985, spurring a trade to the Phillies. After his Cy Young performance, he missed the early part of the 1988 season. Philadelphia traded him to San Francisco during the 1989 season and in 1991 he went to the Minnesota Twins.
He became a free agent in 1992, but wasn't signed and his career seemed to be over. However, he joined the Braves again in 1993 and was a middle-inning relief pitcher on their Western Division championship team.
