Something of a late bloomer, Boucher was a thirty-five-year-old doing graduate work in marketing in 1984, when he won gold medals in the 1,000- and 1,500-meter events at the Olympics. He was the first Canadian ever to win two golds at the same Olympic Games.
Boucher also won a bronze in the 500-meter. He had won a silver medal in the 1,000-meter race in 1980.
