One of only three players to be named an All-American four years in a row, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound Brown was a guard on Walter Camp's team from 1897 through 1900. He captained the 1900 Yale squad, known as the "Team of the Century," which won all 12 of its games and outscored the opposition, 336 to 10. During his four-year career, Yale had a 37-4-3 record.

Camp wrote of his performance as a sophomore in 1898, ". . . in defensive work, and in opening holes in the opposing line, under legal restrictions, he was at the top of his class."

Brown died at 31 of complications from diabetes.
