Career Record

Other Resources

Both a clever boxer and a powerful puncher, Brown began fighting as an amateur about 1919 in Panama and turned professional in 1922. He came to the United States the following year and was undefeated until he lost a 10-round decision to Johnny Russo on January 3, 1925.

Unusually tall for a bantamweight at 5-foot-11, Brown had a very long reach. He won the vacated world title in an elimination tournament, beating Vidal Gregorio on a 15-round decision in the final bout on June 18, 1929, in New York City.

From late 1930 on, Brown did most of his boxing in Europe. He lost his title to Baltazar Sangchili of Spain on a 15-round decision on June 18, 1935, in Valencia. He retired from fighting late in 1942.

Brown won 123 professional bouts, lost 18, and fought 10 draws. He won 55 of his fights by knockout and was never himself knocked out.
