b. Oct. 1, 1956, Westport, CT
A member of the first U. S. Olympic team to win a gold medal in jumping in 1984, Burr was one of the country's top equestriennes beginning in 1979, when she won two Grand Prix events, riding Chase the Clouds. She rode on two winning Nations Cup teams the following year.
After Chase the Clouds died in 1982, Burr trained three horses. In 1983, she rode two of them in the American Gold Cup competition, finishing first on Albany and third on Corsair. They had the same first and third finishes in the Mercedes Grand Prix at the National Horse Show.
Burr won three consecutive grand prix events, a record, in 1983, when she was named Mercedes rider of the year and Albany was named horse of the year.
In 1992, Burr replaced Greg Best as Gem Twist's rider after Best was injured, and she rode Gem Twist to Horse of the Year honors.
