A left-handed first baseman, Camilli was named the NL's most valuable player in 1941, when he led the league with 34 home runs and 120 RBI while batting .285 for the pennant-winning Brooklyn Dodgers. However, Camilli batted .167 and had only 1 RBI in Brooklyn's five-game World Series loss to the New York Yankees.
Camilli joined the Chicago Cubs late in the 1933 season and was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies during the 1934 season. He hit .315 in 1936 and .339 in 1937 before being traded to Brooklyn. He went into the service during the 1943 season and returned to baseball with the Boston Braves for 63 games in 1945 before retiring.
In 1,490 games, Camilli had 1,482 hits, including 261 doubles, 86 triples, and 239 home runs. He scored 936 runs and drove in 950.
