Career Statistics
Carson began skating when he was six years old and played junior hockey in Canada for two seasons before joining the NHL's Los Angeles Kings in 1986, when he was only eighteen.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder set a record for a U. S.-born hockey player by scoring 107 points on 55 goals and 52 assists in the 1987/88 season. He then went to the Edmonton Oilers with another player, three draft choices, and $10 millon in a major trade that brought Wayne Gretzky and two other players to Los Angeles.
In 1988/89, Carson scored an even 100 points on 49 goals and 51 assists. But he was unhappy in Edmonton, asked to be traded, and was sent to the Detroit Red Wings early in the 1989/90 season. From that time on, Carson was bothered by illness and injuries.
He returned to Los Angeles in a trade in late January of 1993, went to Vancouver in 1993, and finished his NHL career with the Hartford Whalers.
