He spent only 11 seasons in the major leagues, but Case won six AL base stealing titles, including five in a row.
A right-handed outfielder, Case joined the AL's Washington Senators late in the 1937 season, became a part-time player in 1938, and moved into a starting job in 1939, when he stole 51 bases to lead the league.
Case also led in steals with 35 in 1940, 33 in 1941, 44 in 1942, 61 in 1943, and 28 in 1948, when he was with the Cleveland Indians. He was the AL leader in runs scored with 102 in 1943. Case returned to the Senators in 1949 and retired after appearing in only 38 games that season.
