Basketball
b. July 17, 1971, Evansville, IN
A 6-foot-7, 209-pound forward, Cheaney starred for four years at the University of Indiana, where he was frequently used at guard because of his ability to handle the ball and shoot from outside.
Cheaney was named college player of the year for the 1992-93 season, when he helped lead Indiana to 28-3 record and the top ranking at the end of the regular season. He averaged 22.4 points a game, hitting 47 of 110 three-point field goal attempts.
During his four years as a starter, Cheaney had an average of 19.8 points per game. He was chosen in the first round of the 1993 NBA draft by the Washington Bullets (now the Wizards). After six seasons with Washington, he played for the Boston Celtics in 1999-2000, then went to the Denver Nuggets for two seasons. He was with the Utah Jazz in 2002-03.
In the NBA, Cheaney has been a swing man, used at both guard and forward. He usually comes off the bench as a team's sixth or seventh man.
