Daubert, "Jake" (Jacob E.)
Baseball
b. April 7, 1884, Shamokin, PA
d. Oct. 9, 1924
A left-handed first baseman, Daubert won two consecutive National League batting titles, hitting .350 in 1913 and .329 in 1914, and he won the Chalmers Award as the league's most valuable player in 1913. The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder was unusually fast for a first baseman. He led the NL in triples with 15 in 1918 and 22 in 1922 and had more than 20 stolen bases six times.
Daubert joined the Brooklyn Robins in 1910 and played with them through 1918, then was traded to Cincinnati. In September of 1924, he became ill. After the season ended, Daubert underwent an appendectomy and died of complications.
In 2,014 games, he had 2,326 hits and a .303 batting average, with 250 doubles, 165 triples, and 56 home runs. He stole 251 bases, scored 1,117 runs, and had 722 RBI.
