Endacott, Paul
Basketball
b. July 13, 1902, Lawrence, KS
d. Jan. 8, 1997
Endacott learned basketball from its inventor, James Naismith, at the Lawrence YMCA and then played for its first full-time coach, "Phog" Allen, at the University of Kansas. Allen later called him the greatest guard he'd ever coached.
The Helms Athletic Foundation named Endacott an All-American for 1923 and 1924 and college player of the year for 1923, when Kansas won 17 of 18 games and the mythical national championship.
After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, Endacott joined the Phillips Petroleum Company as an engineer and he played for its AAU basketball team for two years. He was president of the company from 1951 until his retirement in 1967.
