Fischer, "Bill" (William)

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Fischer, called "Moose" by his teammates, was an All-American guard at Notre Dame in 1947 and 1948 and he won the 1948 Outland Trophy as the nation's best collegiate lineman.

Fischer captained the 1948 team that went undefeated, winning 9 games and tying 1. During his 4 seasons as a starter, sometimes at tackle, Notre Dame won 33 games, lost 2, and tied 2, and had a 21-game victory streak.

The Chicago Cardinals chose Fischer in the first round of the 1949 NFL college draft. He spent 5 seasons with the Cardinals and was named an All-Pro in 1951 and 1952.
