Michael Riley Galitzen created considerable confusion in the record books when he decided in 1931 that he wanted to be known as Mickey Riley. He won two Olympic medals under that name in 1932 after having won two as Michael Galitzen in 1928.
Galitzen was the national outdoor 3-meter springboard and platform champion in 1928 and 1929, the indoor 1-meter springboard in 1929, 1931, and 1932, and the indoor 3-meter champion from 1929 through 1931. Representing the University of Southern California, he won the 3-meter springboard championship in 1931 and 1932.
He won a silver medal in the 1928 Olympic springboard event and a bronze in the platform. In 1932 he won a gold in the springboard and a silver in the platform.
