b. June 30, 1957, Magnolia, AR
A defensive back at little Henderson State College in Arkansas, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Green played that position during his first two seasons with the NFL's St. Louis Cardinals, 1979 and 1980. Because of his speed and great hands, he was moved to wide receiver during the 1981 season.
Green led the league with 14 touchdown receptions in 1983, when he caught 78 passes for 1,227 yards. In 1984, he was the NFL leader in reception yardage with 1,555 on 78 catches.
The Cardinals moved to Phoenix in 1988. Green was traded to the Cleveland Browns before the 1991 season, but the Browns released him and he was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles. He retired after catching only 8 passes in 9 games in 1992.
Green caught 559 passes during his NFL career, gaining 8,965 yards, a 16.0 average, and scoring 66 touchdowns. He also rushed 23 times for 140 yards and 1 touchdown; returned 27 punts for 230 yards and 1 touchdown; and ran back 89 kickoffs for 2,002 yards and 1 touchdown.
