Greer was the first Olympic single sculls champion, in 1904. He won the national 11/2-mile championship from 1903 through 1905 and in 1908 and he was the Canadian champion from 1903 through 1905. Greer coached the Detroit Athletic Club rowing teams for several years after retiring from competition, then moved back to Boston and became the deputy sheriff in charge of the Suffolk County Jail.
