Grissom, Marquis D.
Baseball
b. April 17, 1967, Atlanta, GA
Grissom led the NL in steals in his first two full seasons. He entered the league with the Montreal Expos in 1989, appearing in 26 games, and became a starter in 1990, but an injury limited to just 98 games that season.
A right-handed outfielder, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Grissom batted .267 in 1991 and stole 76 bases, and he had 78 steals in 1992, when he hit .276. Grissom improved greatly as a hitter in 1993, batting .295 with 19 home runs and 95 RBI. His stolen base total declined to 53, partly because he was moved from leadoff to the third spot in the batting order for much of the season.
Since 1995, Grissom has played for four other teams: The Atlanta Braves in 1995 and 1996, the Cleveland Indians in 1997, the Milwaukee Brewers from 1998 through 2000, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001 and 2002.
