Archie Harris

As a student at the University of Indiana, Harris set a world record of 174 feet, 9 inches, in the discus throw in 1941, becoming the first black athlete to hold a world record in any weight event. Harris was the NCAA discus champion in 1940 and 1941 and he also won the AAU national title in 1941.

Harris was a starting end on the Indiana football team for three years. He led the Big Ten in pass receiving in 1940.
