Frank Havens

Havens' father was a member of the Yale crew that was chosen to row for the United States in the 1924 Olympics. But his wife was pregnant and he decided not to go to the Paris Games. He was replaced by an alternate and the crew won a gold medal. Frank Havens was born shortly after the closing ceremonies.

Frank chose canoeing as his sport. He won two Olympic medals in the 10,000-meter canoe singles, a silver in 1948 and a gold in 1952. He also won the national canoeing championship in 1950-52, 1954, 1956-57, and 1961. His older brother, William Havens Jr., was national champion in 1947.
