As a student at the University of Indiana, Henry won three consecutive NCAA springboard titles, from 1968 through 1970. He was the national outdoor champion on the 1-meter springboard from 1967 through 1970 and on the 3-meter springboard from 1969 through 1971. He also won indoor titles in the 1-meter from 1968 through 1970 and in the 3-meter event in 1970.
Henry was leading with three dives to go in the 1968 Olympic springboard competition, but he finished third to win a bronze medal.
