Hogshead, Nancy L.
Swimming
b. April 17, 1962, Iowa City, IA
In the only dead heat in Olympic swimming history, Hogshead and U. S. Carrie Steinseifer tied in 100-meter freestyle in 1984 and shared the gold medal. Hogshead won two other golds, on the 4 by 100-meter freestyle and the 4 by 100-meter medley relay teams. She also won a silver in the 200-meter individual medley.
Hogshead had given up swimming for nearly three years after the U. S. boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics. She won three national butterfly championships, in the 100-yd and 200-meter in 1977 and the 200-yard event in 1978. When she came back in 1983, she had switched to freestyle, and she won the 1984 indoor 220-yard event.
