As a student at Dartmouth College, Igaya won a record six NCAA skiing championships, the downhill in 1955, the slalom from 1955 through 1957, and the Alpine combined in 1955 and 1956. He also won five national titles, the slalom in 1954, the downhill in 1955, the Alpine combined in 1954 and 1955, and the giant slalom in 1960.
Racing for his native Japan, Igaya won a silver medal in the slalom at the 1956 Winter Olympics.
