A member of a harness racing family, Insko drove in his first race on July 4, 1946, six days before his fifteenth birthday. Insko was the leading driver in dashes won with 156 in 1960, when he was named driver of the year, and he led in money won with $1,635,463 in 1969.
Insko did most of his driving on tracks in the New York City area, though he occasionally picked up rides on the grand circuit. He drove Speedy Rodney to a world trotting record of 1:58 3/5 on a half-mile track in 1966 and he was also the driver for Henry T. Adios, Josedale Go Lucky, Bye and Large, Overcall, and Merrie Gesture in many of their victories.
During his career, Insko won 4,558 heats and $27,601,984.
