d. Oct. 2, 1963
The 6-foot-1, 196-pound Joesting was a bruising runner and blocker for three seasons at the University of Minnesota, and he was named All-American fullback twice, in 1926 and 1927. He captained the 1927 team that went undefeated, winning 6 games and tying 2. His fourth-quarter touchdown pass salvaged a 7-7 tie against Notre Dame.
Joesting was player-coach of the NFL's Minneapolis Red Jackets 1929. The team had a 1-9-0 record. He gave up coaching duties and began the 1930 season as the Minneapolis fullback but was traded to the Frankford Yellow Jackets. He played for Frankford and the Chicago Bears in 1931 and finished his career with the Bears in 1932, when they won the NFL championship.
He retired because of injuries after that season. Complete statistics aren't available for the period in which he played, but partial statistics credit him with 1,136 yards on 252 attempts, a 4.5 yard average.
