Jones, "Randy" (Randall L.)
Baseball
b. Jan. 12, 1950, Fullerton, CA
Though he batted right, Jones was a left-handed pitcher who won the NL's Cy Young Award in 1976, when he led the league in victories with a 22-14 record, in complete games with 25, and in innings pitched with 315. He had also led the league in ERA with 2.24 in 1975, when he had a 20-12 record.
Jones joined the San Diego Padres in 1973. With a poor team, he won only 15 games while losing 28 in his first two seasons. After his Cy Young year, he developed arm trouble and never had another winning season. San Diego traded him to the New York Mets in 1981 and he pitched there for two years before retiring.
