Kirk, Oliver
Boxing
b. 1880
d. 19??
By a rather strange fluke, Kirk became the only man ever to win two gold medals in boxing at a single Olympics. In the 1904 Games at St. Louis, there were only two competitors in each division. Kirk knocked out George Finnegan to win the bantamweight title. Hungry for more action, the crowd clamored for a fight between Kirk and the featherweight champion, Frank Haller. Kirk won a decision in that bout and was awarded both titles and gold medals.
