Known as the "Boy Wonder" after he won the U. S. Revolver Association Championship in 1911, before his twentieth birthday, Lane won five gold medals and one bronze at two Olympics.
At the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, Lane won the free pistol and rapid-fire pistol and was a member of the winning U. S. teams in both events. In 1912, at the Antwerp Games, he was on the gold medal free pistol team and took a bronze in the individual free pistol event.
Lane was the U. S. Revolver Association champion three years in a row, 1913 through 1915. He worked for many years in the advertising department of the Remington Firearms Company.
