Mariucci played both football and hockey at the University of Minnesota and was a star defenseman on the hockey team that went undefeated in the 1939-40 season. He became a professional with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1940.
After serving in the Coast Guard from 1942 through 1945, Mariucci returned to the Black Hawks and played with them through the 1947-48 season. He then spent three seasons in the minor leagues.
In 1953, Mariucci was named coach at his alma mater. He had a 215-148-18 record in 14 seasons there before joining the NHL's Minnesota North Stars as a scout in 1966. Mariucci coached the silver medal U. S. Olympic team in 1956.
