Marolt, "Bill" (William)

Marolt lettered in both football and skiing in high school and entered the University of Colorado in 1961. He won NCAA championships in the downhill in 1965, the slalom and the Alpine combined in 1966, and he also won three national titles, the downhill in 1963, the slalom in 1964, and the giant slalom in 1965. Marolt skied on the national teams that competed in the 1962 and 1966 world championships and the 1964 Olympics.
He graduated with a degree in engineering in 1967 and was named ski coach at his alma mater the following year. Marolt guided Colorado to eight consecutive NCAA team championships, 1971 through 1978 (including a tie with Dartmouth in 1976) and produced 30 All-Americans in 10 years. He was also instrumental in establishing a women's ski team at the school.
In 1979, Marolt became Alpine director of the U. S. ski team in Park City, UT. His 1984 team won five medals, including three golds, at the Winter Olympics. Marolt returned to the University of Colorado as athletic director in August of 1984.
