The 6-foot-2, 275-pound Maryland was clocked at 4.98 for 40 yards during his career as the University of Miami, where he was a unanimous All-American nose tackle and winner of the Outland Trophy as the nation's outstanding collegiate lineman in 1990.
The first pick overall in the 1991 NFL draft, Maryland was selected by the Dallas Cowboys. He started at defensive tackle as a rookie and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Maryland played for the Cowboy teams that won the 1992, 1993, and 1995 NFL championships.
Maryland joined the Oakland Raiders as a free agent in 1996. He spent four seasons in Oakland, then went to the Green Bay Packers in 2000. He retired after the Packers released him before the 2001 season.
