John Mayasich

An All-American three years in a row at the University of Minnesota, Mayasich won the Western Collegiate Hockey Association scoring title in 1954 and 1955. He set the NCAA tournament record for the most points in a game with 7 against Boston College in 1954.

Mayasich turned down a number of offers from NHL teams and remained an amateur, playing mostly with the Green Bay, Wisconsin, Bobcats. He played on more national teams than any other U. S. player. He was a member of the 1956 Olympic team that won the silver medal and the 1960 team that won the gold medal. He also played in the world championship tournaments in 1957, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1966, and 1969.

The University of Minnesota gives the John Mayasich Award annually to the best student-athlete on the hockey team.
