Mike McCormack

An unsung player out of the University of Kansas, McCormack played both offensive tackle and linebacker for the NFL's New York Yanks in 1951 and had an outstanding game against the Cleveland Browns.

He entered the Army in 1952 and was still in service the following year when the Browns acquired him in a complex trade involving fifteen players. McCormack joined the Browns in 1954 and played defensive middle guard that season, then was moved to offensive tackle.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound McCormack was the Browns' offensive captain from 1956 until his retirement after the 1962 season. Although he never made the All-Pro team, he played in the Pro Bowl six times.

McCormack coached the Philadelphia Eagles to a 16-25-1 record from 1973 through 1976 and had a 9-23-0 record with the Baltimore Colts in 1980 and 1981. He was named director of football operations for the Seattle Seahawks in 1982, serving as interim coach briefly. He became the team's general manager in 1984.
