McCutchan, Arad A.

McCutchan played four years of basketball at Evansville College, graduating in 1934, and received a master's degree from Columbia University Teachers College. He coached high school basketball for nine seasons, then served in the U. S. Navy for three years during World War II.
In 1946, he became head coach at Evansville and developed a perennial college division power. His teams won a record five college division (now Division II) NCAA championships, in 1959, 1960, 1964, 1965, and 1971, and McCutchan was named college division coach of the year in both 1964 and 1965.
The 1964-65 team, which starred Jerry Sloan, had a perfect 29-0 record and beat the University of Iowa, Louisiana State, Northwestern, and Notre Dame. Sloan became an NBA player and coach. McCutchan retired in 1972 with a record of 433 wins, a college division record at the time, and 259 losses.
