Helen Meany

Meany was the first American diver to compete in three Olympics. After failing to medal in the platform event in 1920 and 1924, she won a gold medal in springboard diving in 1928.

She won 14 AAU national titles, in the outdoor 3-meter springboard in 1921, 1922, 1926, and 1927; in the outdoor platform from 1921 through 1923 and in 1925 and 1927; in the indoor 1-meter springboard from 1926 through 1928; and in the indoor 3-meter springboard in 1925 and 1927.

Meany lost her amateur status after the 1928 Olympics for participating in a Miami Beach water show, not sanctioned by the AAU, with Pete DesJardins, Martha Norelius, and Johnny Weissmuller.
