Lou Michaels

A defensive tackle and left-footed placekicker at the University of Kentucky, Michaels was an All-American in 1956 and 1957 and he won the 1957 Knute Rockne Trophy as the nation's outstanding collegiate lineman.

Michaels joined the NFL's Los Angeles Rams in 1958. Though sometimes used as a defensive end, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Michaels was primarily a kicker during his professional career. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1961, was with the Baltimore Colts from 1964 through 1970, and played one season with the Green Bay Packers in 1971.

His 26 field goals in 1962 was an NFL record at the time. In his 14 NFL seasons, Michaels scored 955 points by kicking 187 of 341 field goal attempts and converting 86 of 402 extra point attempts.
