Moseley, Mark D.
Football
b. March 12, 1948, Lanesville, TX
Moseley, a place-kicker who attended Texas A & M University and Stephen F. Austin College, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourteenth round of the 1970 NFL draft. The Eagles released him after one season and the Houston Oilers picked him up in 1971 but cut him early in the 1972 season.
After a year out of football, Moseley was signed by the Washington Redskins in 1974 and he handled their kicker through the 1986 season. He set an NFL record by scoring 161 points by kicking in 1983 on 62 of 63 extra points and 33 of 47 field goal attempts.
Moseley was the last of the straight-ahead kickers. Even during his career, most other NFL kickers used the soccer technique, and they've all been soccer-style kickers since his retirement.
In 17 NFL seasons, Moseley scored 1,382 points, converting 482 of 511 extra point attempts and hitting 300 of 457 field goal attempts. He ranks twelfth all-time in scoring.
