Bill Murray

A halfback at Duke University, Murray graduated in 1931. He had a 69-9-3 record coaching at the Methodist Children's home in Winston-Salem, NC, from 1931 through 1940 and then went to the University of Delaware, where he coached undefeated teams in 1941 and 1942. After three years of military service, Murray had another undefeated season in 1946. His record was 49-16-2 in 7 seasons at Delaware.

Murray returned to Duke as head coach in 1951 and his 1952 team won the Southern Conference championship. Duke moved into the new Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953 and won or shared six ACC titles through 1965. Murray retired with a 93-51-9 record after the 1965 season.
