Although best known as a great doubles player, Osborne also won six singles titles in grand slam tournaments, the U. S. national championships from 1948 through 1950, Wimbledon in 1947, and the French national in 1946 and 1949.
Osborne learned to play on hard courts in California, where she developed a serve-and-volley style with an outstanding backhand smash. She and Louise Brough formed one of the best doubles teams in history, losing only eight matches from 1942 through 1957. They won the women's doubles at Wimbledon in 1946, from 1948 through 1950, and in 1954; in the U. S. nationals from 1942 through 1950 and from 1955 through 1957; and in the French national tournament in 1946, 1947, and 1949.
Osborne also teamed with Sarah Palfrey to win the U. S. women's doubles championship in 1941. She won the U. S. mixed doubles with Bill Talbert from 1943 through 1946, with Ken McGregor in 1950 with Ken McGregor, with Ken Rosewall in 1956, and with Neale Fraser from 1958 through 1960. Osborne and Fraser also won the Wimbledon mixed doubles championship in 1962.
