An All-American soccer goalie at East Stroudsburg State College in 1971 and 1972, Rigby joined the Philadelphia Atoms of the North American Soccer League as a first-round draft choice in 1973. He was named the league's goalie of the year after giving up just 0.62 goals per game to lead the Atoms to a championship.
Rigby, who played for the 1972 U. S. Olympic team and the U. S. national team in 1973 and 1974, remained with Philadelphia through the 1975 season, then joined the New York Cosmos. After one year in New York, he was traded to the Los Angeles Aztecs in 1977, the Philadelphia Fury in 1979, Montreal in 1981, and he finished his professional career with the San Jose Golden Bay Club in 1973.
After retiring from soccer, Rigby became a gymnastics instructor.
