Rimington, Dave B.
Football
b. May 22, 1960, Omaha, NE
The only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy as the nation's best collegiate lineman, Rimington also won the Vince Lombardi Award as the outstanding lineman in 1982, his senior year at the University of Nebraska. An ardent weightlifter, he was voted Nebraska's lifter of the year in 1980 and 1981. Rimington was both a consensus All-American and an Academic All-American in 1981 and 1982.
The 6-foot-3, 288-pound Rimington joined the Cincinnati Bengals as a first-round draft choice in 1983. After missing much of his rookie season with a foot injury, he became a starter in 1984. Mainly because he was the team players' representative during the 1987 strike season, the Bengals traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1988. He retired after an injury limited him to six games in 1990.
Rimington was later an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin. He is currently president of the Boomer Esiason Foundation and he operates a football instruction camp. Since 2000, the Dave Rimington Trophy has been presented annually to the nation's outstanding collegiate center.
