Rote, Kyle Jr.

After attending Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship, Rote transferred to the University of the South in Tennessee, where he starred in soccer. A first-round draft choice of the North American Soccer League's Dallas Tornado in 1973, he led the league with 30 points on 10 goals and 10 assists and was named rookie of the year.
Rote was traded to the Houston Hurricane in 1978 and retired with 42 career goals after one season there. He worked in sports broadcasting until 1983, when he returned to soccer as player coach of the Memphis Americans of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The team moved to Las Vegas for the following season and Rote chose not to go.
He is now president of a sports agency in Memphis.
