1928 - 44-Year-Old Coach Shows How to Play Goal

After goalie Lorne Chabot was hit in the eye with a shot, 44-year-old New York Ranger coach Lester Patrick, a former NHL defenseman, came off the bench to play goal. He shut out the Montreal Maroons the rest of the way and the Rangers won the second game of the Stanley Cup finals, 2-1, in overtime. They went on to win the championship in five games.

1935 - Double Eagle Leads to Masters Win

Gene Sarazen was four shots off the lead with four holes to play in the second Masters Tournament. From 220 yards away on Augusta's 15th hole, he hit a 4-wood into the cup for a double eagle 2, went on tie Craig Wood and then won the playoff.

1969 - Singer Records MLB's First Save

The first official save in major league history was credited to Bill Singer of the Dodgers in a Los Angeles victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

1979 - Ken Joins Brother Bob in No-Hit Club

Ken Forsch of the Houston Astros threw a no-hitter to beat the Atlanta Braves, 6-0. He and his brother, Bob, who had pitched a no-hitter the previous season, are the only siblings with major-league no-nos.
