1892 - National League Inaugurates Sunday Baseball
Cincinnati beat St. Louis, 5-1, in the National League's first Sunday game. The league had prohibited play on Sunday before merging with the American Association.

1976 - Schmidt Leads Phillies' Comeback
Mike Schmidt hit four home runs to power the Phillies to the greatest comeback in National League history. After trailing 12-1 and 13-2, the Phillies beat the Cubs, 18-16, in 10 innings as Schmidt collected 8 RBI.

The Philadelphia 76ers' Julius Erving, better known as "Doctor J," became the third player in history to score more than 30,000 points in his professional career, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in that exclusive club.
